Client The CE Church St Mary the Virgin
Architect Lee Evans Partnership

St Mary the Virgin Church is a Grade 1 listed parish church located between Canterbury and Sandwich in Kent.

Following our successful appointment to this project, our highly experienced team worked closely with the Church and project team to create better access to and within the Church.

The project involved the supply and installation of a number of bespoke crafted wooden ramps, compliant with the Disabled Discrimination Act (DDA).

To enable the ramps to be placed according to the Church’s wishes, several pews were carefully relocated within the Church. Delicate works also included removing parts of existing floor areas and sensitively relocating a memorial plaque.

In total, four new DDA-compliant ramps were built and installed to provide access from the main church entrance to the porch, the porch to the church, and the aisle to the vestry and altar.

In addition, works also included the completion of a significant amount of lime-rich plaster repairs to the internal walls, and the relocation of a large cast iron radiator.
